A Floating Support customer discusses how the service has helped her:

For the last 16 years, I have suffered with blackouts and have been recently diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). At the time, I was living in a two bedroom terraced house and, because of my condition, things like having to go up and down stairs became too difficult a challenge – so much so that I ended up sleeping downstairs on my settee.

The situation became too much and I slipped into depression. This not only made me reluctant to leave the house, but managing day-to-day tasks took a huge effort, and trying to move house to a more suitable place was completely unthinkable.

I began to sink into an all-time low and it was a visit to my G.P. that thankfully put me in touch with Floating Support and my Inspire support officer. When my Floating Support Officer arrived, he listened to my needs and quickly made me aware of my options for housing. With his help, I decided to fill in a B-with-us application.

As I had no internet access, he would bid on suitable properties for me and, soon after, I was offered a viewing on a flat. It was perfect. As well as accompanying me on the viewing, he also supported me throughout my move and made sure I applied for appropriate benefits.

I now feel secure and content and I can honestly say that this is the best I’ve felt in many years.
