Work starts on site for new Calico development in Burnley

Work has begun on site for Calico’s new high-quality housing development on Pomfret Street and Blannel Street, Burnley.

The development follows the completion of Calico’s Primrose Mill in Briercliffe and is the latest in Calico’s Affordable Homes and Refurbishment Programme, which aims to build 463 new homes by March 2019, in addition to the refurbishment of their existing housing stock across Burnley and Padiham.

Ring Stones are expected to create a number of apprenticeships and local construction jobs as a result of this development.

Work on the 22 new homes will be undertaken by Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction and is due to be completed by February 2017.

Partners on the site include architects Halsall Lloyd Partnership, structural engineers Sutcliffe, employers agent CPC, and Burnley Borough Council.

The development has received funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

Wendy Malone, Calico’s Group Head of Development, said:

“We’re excited to start work on the new development on Pomfret Street and Blannel Street. This site is an important investment in the area, and will provide essential affordable housing for local people.

“Providing high quality affordable accommodation, and the jobs that come with developing new homes, is a priority for both Calico and Ring Stones.”
