Calico Homes has announced proposals for new, affordable housing on Water Street and Back Church Street, on the edge of Hapton, with the aim of creating much needed additional housing for the local community, and job opportunities as part of the development.
If approved, the development would consist of nine affordable rental homes, including:
- 8x two bedroom, four person houses on Back Church Street
- 1x two bedroom, three person bungalow on Water Street.
The proposals will be shown at a local consultation event on Thursday 10th September, 3-7pm, at Hapton Methodist Church, where there will be a chance to discuss the proposals in more detail with Calico staff and learn more about apprenticeship opportunities.
It is also anticipated that a Local Lettings Plan would be introduced to ensure that preference for the new homes will be given to people from the area, who otherwise might not be able to stay in Hapton.
The Hapton development would be the latest in Calico’s Affordable Homes and Refurbishment Programme, which aims to build 420 new homes by March 2019, and to continue the refurbishment of their existing housing stock across Burnley and Padiham.
Work on site, which would be carried out by Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction, would take approximately twelve months and, pending planning approval, would commence in November/December 2015.
The Council’s Strategic Housing Market Assessment in 2008 showed a need for affordable accommodation in the area, and more recent housing waiting list figures confirm that there is still a demand.
At this stage, the developments are just a proposal, but Calico is keen to speak to residents about any issues that will affect them.
Calico will ensure that residents have the opportunity to share their views on any decisions that are made.
