This year, Calico Community Choice is celebrating the grassroots groups making a real difference to wellbeing in our town—and one project in particular is lighting up Ightenhill Park in more ways than one.
Outdoors for All Together CIC is a community-led initiative that’s turning simple outdoor moments into powerful experiences of connection and recovery. Every week, Glen and the team welcome people to relaxed wellbeing sessions in the park, where the campfire is always warm and the atmosphere is always kind.

From woodland walks and gardening to archery, crafts and cooking together, the sessions offer something for everyone—whether you want to join in or just sit quietly and soak up the surroundings. But it’s not really about the activities. It’s about what happens between them.
People who once felt isolated are now leading games, making friends, and rediscovering their confidence. One participant, previously housebound after COVID, now attends independently—proof of the quiet transformation taking place around the fire.
“For me, it’s about seeing people relax, smile, and feel like they belong. To see people who arrived anxious or withdrawn leave feeling lighter and connected makes it deeply personal and worthwhile.”
Looking ahead, Glen hopes the project can grow to reach even more people.
“It’s not about being sporty or outdoorsy—it’s simply about being together in a safe, relaxed space. You don’t have to do anything, just come as you are. Everyone is welcome.”
