Planning Permission Granted for New Housing Projecting Supporting LGBT Young People and Adults in Morecambe

Planning permission has been granted for a new housing project which will support LGBT young people and adults in Morecambe.

The £350,000 project, with £99,200 of funding provided via Homes England, will be created in partnership with Calico Homes, Out in the Bay (OiTB), No Labelz, Calico Enterprise, BTP Architects, and PWA Planning.

The former nursery building, located on Claremont Road, will be fully refurbished by Calico Homes. This will create new office, meeting, and recreational spaces and a dedicated kitchen area, alongside two apartments, each with self-contained bedrooms and bathrooms for up to four residents.

This will be used by OiTB, a Lancashire-based charity working with LGBT people and young adults, providing support services to those in the community who need it.

As an award-winning diversity organisation, this development will help to continue The Calico Group’s commitment to investment and regeneration, supporting communities where they need it the most, and making a real difference to people’s lives.

Work is scheduled to begin in January 2022 with completion expected around April 2022.

Wendy Malone, Director of Development at Calico Homes, said: “We’re proud to be able to provide a building which will be used for such a great cause. It’s also another step towards our wider vison of investing in properties right across the North West to provide homes and enable support services for people who need them in their local communities.”
