The Calico Group is one of more than 100 organisations across the UK to sign up to a national pledge to tackle domestic abuse in housing.
The Make a Stand pledge was developed by Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) in partnership with the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA) and Women’s Aid.
The organisations which have signed up to put in place four actions to support people who are experiencing domestic abuse who live and work in social housing:
- To put in place and embed a policy to support residents who are experiencing domestic abuse
- To make information about national and local domestic abuse support services available on your website and in other places which are easily accessible to residents and staff
- To put in place a HR policy and procedure on domestic abuse, or to incorporate this into an existing policy, to support members of staff who are experiencing domestic abuse
- Appoint a champion in your organisation to own the activity you are doing to support people experiencing domestic abuse.
As part of a The Calico Group, Calico Homes is in a unique position to offer support to its residents.
Through its domestic abuse support charity SafeNet, The Calico Group has the support of trained domestic advisors, who offer training to frontline staff to identify the telltale signs of abuse in both customers and their colleagues, and help them get the support they need.
For more than 40 years, SafeNet has been keeping victims and survivors of domestic abuse safe, and has developed expertise to work effectively with a wide variety of customers.
Anthony Duerden, Chief Executive of The Calico Group, said:
“We are proud to sign up to the CIH Make a Stand pledge.
“Thanks to the team at SafeNet, our Calico Homes staff have the knowledge they need to spot victims of abuse and help them receive the life changing support they need.”
