Calico has commenced groundworks on a much-needed high-quality housing development on Perseverence Mill in Padiham.
Following the successful purchase of the land – which has long been considered an eyesore by local residents – Calico have now started work on the 56-property development, which will consist of a mix of houses, bungalows and apartments, all available for rent.
Calico is investing £6 million into the development, with contributions from the Homes and Communities Agency and Burnley Borough Council.
Work on site will be carried out by Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction, and is likely to take 18 months to complete.
Ring Stones are expected to create a number of apprenticeships and local construction jobs as a result of the development.
Wendy Malone, Calico’s Group Head of Development, said:
“We’re really pleased to start work on this exciting development and meet the demands of the area.
“Local residents told us that they welcome the new development at a recent consultation event, which they believe will be a vast improvement to the eyesore that is currently on the site.
“Delivering high quality, affordable homes for local people, and the jobs that come with this, will always be a priority for Calico and Ring Stones, and Perseverence Mill will deliver on both fronts.”
Mick Cartledge, Chief Operating Officer for Burnley Borough Council, said:
“We were pleased to make a contribution to this scheme to help make it a reality. We would like to thank Calico for their vision and commitment to delivering this housing development which will help to transform this neighbourhood.”
