Calico Homes has become a Third-Party Reporting Centre for Burnley providing people with more options to report a hate crime without having to go directly to the police.
The Neighbourhood Management and Community Safety Teams at Calico Homes have received specialist training from Lancashire Constabulary on how to deal with people who are suffering from hate crime and witnesses of hate crime.
As a Third-Party reporting centre, Calico Homes can make a report to the police on behalf of anyone who is facing hate crime, and these reports can be made anonymously.
The aim of a Third-Party reporting centre is to help break down any barriers that people may face when reporting hate crime.
Calico Homes are currently working with local authorities including Burnley Council to take action against hate crime in communities.
This year, Calico Homes has resolved 5 cases of hate crime and with many hate crimes going unreported, Calico Homes is encouraging people to come forward and report any incidents.
Dawn Cardwell, Head of Neighbourhoods at Calico Homes said: “By becoming a Third-Party Reporting Centre for hate crime in Burnley we wanted to support the wider community in making neighbourhoods across Burnley a safer place.
As an organisation, we are committed to making sure everyone is treated equally and setting an example by acting against people who discriminate and making our communities a safe place to live.
This year, we have resolved five cases of hate crime. We know that there is still work to do, as we recognise that cases going unreported. To ensure we can help as many people as possible, we encourage anyone facing hate crime to report any incidents.”
