Calico Homes Welcomes Residents into New Padiham Apartments

Calico Homes is welcoming new residents after the second phase of Padiham development, Perseverance Mill, was completed this month.

The Perseverance Mill site was formerly a derelict mill building on Albion Street which sat empty for more than a decade, creating issues for local residents due to attracting fly tipping and anti-social behaviour.

Funding of £440,000 was provided by Homes England towards the overall £1.3m cost of the second phase to enable Calico Homes to create 10 apartments and reinstate a 2-bed house which was amalgamated into the existing building.

The new canal side apartments boast dedicated onsite parking, and the former mill showcases original external features which were retained during the build.

During community consultations, the local residents’ association suggested the name ‘Perseverance Court’ for the new apartments to acknowledge the heritage of the site.

New resident of Perseverance Court, William Speak, says, “I’m excited to move into my new home. It’s close to work which will mean less commuting. I’m looking forward to getting settled in and meeting my new neighbours.”

The first phase of the Perseverance Mill development, which completed in 2018, provided 56 much-needed affordable family homes.

This won the Regeneration award at the Northwest RICS Awards in 2019 for blending the new homes with existing heritage and reopening the nearby culvert which had previously been concealed for decades beneath the mill building.

Alongside ongoing renovation programmes on its existing homes, Calico Homes is committed to investing in the local community, providing more high-quality affordable homes in order to help meet the growing demand and to make a real difference to people’s lives.

Lisa Bell, Head of Development at Calico Homes, says, “The apartments provided are good quality with a modern finish, which have been popular with those who have taken on tenancies. The development was welcomed by the local council, community and residents’ association and completes the regeneration of this popular area.”
