Managing your money

If you are struggling with debt Money Helper has a list of free debt advice services that may be able to help including –

  • Visit Step Change for free debt advice and practical help and solutions based on your situation
  • National Debtline: Free and Independent Advice National Debt Helpline 0808 808 4000
  • Citizen’s Advice: You can call the Citizens advice line for help and support on 0808 223 1133
  • Turn2us is a national charity helping people in financial hardship, gain access to welfare benefits and other support services through partner organisations.
Energy & Utilities


  • Community Grocery: With the aim to bring down the cost of the weekly shop, the Valley Street Community Grocery store is available to support people within the Burnley borough
  • Too Good To Go: If you have a smart phone, this app will let you know if there is food being sold at a low cost near you
  • Budget friend family recipes: There are many sites available with suggested ingredients and recipes for cooking on a budget
  • If you are struggling financially to meet your housing costs and are in receipt of Housing benefit or the Housing element of Universal Credit you may be eligible for Discretionary Housing Payment through your local council.

  • Council tax support is a benefit to support people who are on a low income with your council tax bill.  You can check if you are entitled and apply visit
