Speeding worries raised by a Dovestone Gardens resident have quickly turned into action, after local councillors and police community support officers (PCSOs) visited the extra care facility last week.
Resident Gillian Winder emailed councillors and police about traffic concerns on Briercliffe Road — and was delighted with the swift response.
Within days, a visit was arranged with local PCSOs and councillors, alongside a speed check vehicle visiting Briercliffe Road to monitor cars passing by.
Dovestone Gardens resident, Gillian Winder, said: “When I received emails and phone calls back from them both I was delighted. The community here has extended with our new building and many people visit, so it’s important we keep the community safe for everyone.”
Lancashire County Councillor Mark Poulton, alongside fellow Lancashire County Councillor, Usman Arif, alongside praised the residents’ involvement.
On his Facebook page, Mark explained: “It was good to meet up with the residents from Dovestone Gardens to discuss anti-social vehicle use and speeding. It’s always great to see the interaction from the residents. Thanks for the cake and coffee!”
For Gillian and her neighbours, the meeting provided reassurance and a sense of being heard.
She continued: “I love every aspect of living at Dovestone Gardens. Feeling safe is invaluable to me, and being part of a community in the building and surroundings is important too,” she added.
Residents also shared concerns about the wider area, learned about local community groups, and were given clear advice on where to report future issues.
“It was a great success. I felt I had been listened to, and I’m proud to support the residents and the wider community.”
