We’ve Been Shortlisted for Three Northern Housing Awards

We’re delighted to share that we have been shortlisted for three prestigious housing awards.

The Northern Housing Awards recently announced that we have been successful in three categories, recognising the work we do to provide affordable housing, tackle homelessness and partner with other businesses, charities and agencies to create a COVID response hub in the community.

The categories are:

Through the Empty Homes Scheme, we have so far renovated 94 previously empty, often derelict, homes to create high-quality, affordable housing for let in the area. This scheme has also helped to make neighbourhoods more attractive, creating sustainable communities for current and future generations.

Burnley Together was set up in March 2020 as an emergency response to support local people through the COVID-19 pandemic. More than a year later, we remain a key partner as the hub continues offer people in the community the support they need, through food parcels, debt and housing advice and much more.

The Florence Avenue project utilised empty land to create 24 bungalows, providing a mixture of affordable independent living homes for over 55’s, supported living for those requiring additional care and homes ideal for young families, establishing a multi-generational, vibrant neighbourhood.

We have made providing more affordable housing a top priority and continue to invest in the community. We have also made a long-term commitment to prevent homelessness and reduce rough sleeping in the area.

Wendy Malone, Director of Development at Calico Homes, says, “Our teams have worked hard throughout the pandemic to make sure we can continue to provide affordable homes safely, and support our wider community during a time of need. Good luck to all involved.”

The virtual awards ceremony will take place on 13 May 2021 where the winners will be announced. The Northern Housing Awards celebrate and promote all the great things the Northern Powerhouse’s affordable housing providers and their supply chain partners are doing.  You can find out more about the Northern Housing Awards here: https://northernhousingawards.co.uk/
