Buying your home
Some customers living in homes provided by Calico Homes may be able to buy their property through a government scheme. There are two main options: Right to Acquire and Right to Buy.
We’ll help you understand what each one means and whether you might be eligible.
What’s the difference?
Right to Acquire
This scheme is for customers living in homes built or bought by housing associations after 1 April 1997. If your home qualifies, you could get a discount of up to £9,000 off the market value.
Right to Buy
This is usually for customers who were council tenants before their home transferred to a housing association. The discount is often higher than Right to Acquire (up to a maximum of £26,000) and depends on how long you’ve lived in the property.
Can I apply?
You might be able to apply if:
- The property is your main home
- You’ve had a public sector landlord (like a council or housing association) for at least 3 years
- The property isn’t sheltered housing or specially adapted
- You don’t have any legal issues that would stop you (like bankruptcy or possession orders)
Not all homes qualify, and some types of housing are excluded. We’ll check everything for you and let you know what’s possible.
